Basic Usage

Learn how to use OSS Weather for daily weather checking.

Main Weather View

The main screen shows comprehensive weather information for your current location or selected location.

Current Conditions

At the top of the main screen, you'll see:

• Current temperature and feels-like temperature
• Weather condition (sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc.) with icon
• Location name
• Last update time

Quick Stats

Below current conditions:

• High/Low - Today's forecasted high and low temperatures
• Precipitation - Chance of rain/snow
• Wind - Wind speed and direction
• Humidity - Current humidity percentage
• Pressure - Atmospheric pressure
• UV Index - Sun exposure level
• Visibility - How far you can see

Navigating the App

Pull to Refresh

Swipe down on the main screen to manually refresh weather data.

Scroll for More

Scroll down to see:

1. Hourly Forecast - Next 48 hours
2. Daily Forecast - Next 7-14 days
3. Astronomy - Sun and moon information
4. Air Quality - AQI and pollutants
5. Additional Details - More weather metrics

Bottom Navigation

Access different views:

• Home - Main weather view
• Radar - Weather radar
• Map - Interactive weather map
• Compare - Compare locations
• More - Additional features

Top Menu

Tap the menu icon (☰) to access:

• Locations - Manage saved locations
• Settings - App configuration
• About - App information
• Help - Documentation

Managing Locations

Adding a Location

1. Tap the menu icon (☰)
2. Select "Locations"
3. Tap the "+" button
4. Search for a location or tap on the map
5. Confirm the selection

Switching Locations

Method 1: Swipe

• Swipe left/right on the main screen to switch between saved locations

Method 2: Location Menu

1. Tap the current location name
2. Select from your saved locations

Deleting a Location

1. Go to menu → Locations
2. Swipe left on a location
3. Tap "Delete"

Setting Default Location

1. Go to menu → Locations
2. Long press on a location
3. Select "Set as Default"

Using Weather Radar

1. Tap the "Radar" tab at the bottom
2. View animated precipitation radar
3. Use the timeline slider to see past/future precipitation
4. Pinch to zoom, drag to pan
5. Tap play button to animate

Viewing Hourly Forecast

On Main Screen

Scroll down to see the hourly forecast chart with:

• Temperature line graph
• Precipitation bars
• Wind indicators

Detailed View

Tap on any hour to see detailed information:

• Exact temperature
• Feels-like temperature
• Precipitation chance and amount
• Wind speed and direction
• Humidity
• Cloud cover
• Pressure

Checking Daily Forecast

Scroll to the daily forecast section to see:

• High and low temperatures
• Weather conditions
• Precipitation probability
• Sunrise/sunset times

Tap on any day for more details.

Weather Comparison

1. Tap "Compare" in bottom navigation
2. Select locations to compare
3. View side-by-side comparison of:
   • Current conditions
   • Temperatures
   • Precipitation
   • Other metrics

Using Widgets

Adding a Widget (Android)

1. Long press on your home screen
2. Select "Widgets"
3. Find "OSS Weather"
4. Drag desired widget size to your home screen
5. Configure the widget

Adding a Widget (iOS)

1. Long press on your home screen
2. Tap the "+" icon
3. Search for "OSS Weather"
4. Select widget size
5. Tap "Add Widget"
6. Configure the widget

Checking Air Quality

Scroll down on the main screen to the "Air Quality" section to see:

• Overall AQI (Air Quality Index) with color coding
• Individual pollutant levels
• Health recommendations

Viewing Astronomy Data

Scroll down to the "Astronomy" section to see:

• Sun position and path visualization
• Sunrise, sunset, golden hour, blue hour
• Moon phase and position
• Moonrise and moonset times

Switching Weather Providers

1. Go to Settings → Weather Providers
2. Select a provider:
   • OpenWeather
   • Open-Meteo
   • AccuWeather
   • Meteo France
3. Enter API key if required
4. Tap "Save"

The app will refresh with data from the new provider.

Customizing Units

1. Go to Settings → Units
2. Set your preferences for:
   • Temperature (°C, °F, K)
   • Wind speed (m/s, km/h, mph, knots)
   • Pressure (hPa, inHg, mmHg)
   • Precipitation (mm, inches)
   • Distance (km, miles)

Changing Theme

1. Go to Settings → Display
2. Select theme:
   • Auto: Follow system theme
   • Light: Always light
   • Dark: Always dark

Tips & Tricks

Battery Optimization

• Set update interval to 1 hour or more
• Disable background updates if not using widgets
• Use "Manual" refresh mode

Data Usage

• The app caches data to minimize API calls
• Manual refreshes count toward API limits
• Consider using Open-Meteo (no rate limits)

Accuracy

• Compare providers for your location
• Some providers are better for specific regions
• Use multiple providers as backups

Common Actions

Quick Weather Check

1. Open app
2. View current conditions at top
3. Scroll for hourly/daily forecasts

Check If It Will Rain

1. Look at precipitation percentage under current conditions
2. Scroll to hourly forecast
3. Check precipitation probability for upcoming hours

Plan for Tomorrow

1. Scroll to daily forecast
2. Tap on tomorrow's forecast
3. View detailed hourly breakdown

Compare Vacation Destinations

1. Add each destination as a location
2. Go to "Compare" tab
3. Select the destinations
4. Compare weather side-by-side
