Hourly Charts

Interactive charts showing detailed hourly weather forecasts.

Overview

The hourly charts provide a visual representation of weather conditions for the next 48 hours, making it easy to understand weather patterns at a glance.

Chart Types

Temperature Chart

Line graph showing:

  • Current temperature (solid line)
  • Feels-like temperature (dashed line)
  • Dew point (if enabled)

Colors indicate temperature ranges (cool to warm).

Precipitation Chart

Bar chart showing:

  • Precipitation probability (percentage)
  • Precipitation amount (mm or inches)
  • Precipitation type (rain, snow, mixed)

Colors range from light blue (low chance) to dark blue (high chance).

Combined Chart

The default view combines multiple metrics:

  • Temperature line (top)
  • Precipitation bars (middle)
  • Wind indicators (bottom)
  • Cloud cover shading
  • Time labels (x-axis)

Wind Chart

Shows wind data:

  • Wind speed (line or bars)
  • Wind gusts (dotted line)
  • Wind direction (arrows)

Additional Metrics

Other available charts:

  • Humidity
  • Pressure
  • Cloud cover
  • UV index
  • Visibility

Reading the Charts

Rising Temperature:

  • Line slopes upward
  • Warming throughout the day

Precipitation Window:

  • Bars show when rain is expected
  • Height indicates intensity
  • Width shows duration

Wind Patterns:

  • Arrows show direction
  • Size indicates speed
  • Watch for sudden changes

Planning Activities

Find best time for outdoor activities:

  1. Look for no precipitation bars
  2. Check comfortable temperature range
  3. Verify low wind speed
  4. Check UV index for sun exposure

Prepare for bad weather:

  1. Note when precipitation starts
  2. Check intensity (bar height)
  3. See how long it lasts
  4. Plan accordingly

Chart Accuracy

Time Frames

0-6 hours: Very accurate 6-24 hours: Highly accurate 24-48 hours: Good accuracy

Provider Differences

Different weather providers may show:

  • Slightly different temperatures
  • Different precipitation timing
  • Varying wind predictions

Compare providers for important planning.

Tips & Tricks

Quick Glance

Look for:

  • Steep slopes - Rapid temperature changes
  • Tall bars - Heavy precipitation
  • Gaps in bars - Rain-free periods
  • Arrow clusters - Strong/gusty winds

Detailed Analysis

For precision:

  • Tap each hour for exact values
  • Check feels-like vs actual temperature
  • Note precipitation probability AND amount
  • Consider wind chill effects

Comparing Days

Scroll through the chart to:

  • Compare today vs tomorrow
  • Find patterns (rain every afternoon?)
  • Plan multi-day activities

Common Patterns

Daily Temperature Curve

  • Morning - Coldest (lowest point)
  • Afternoon - Warmest (peak)
  • Evening - Cooling down
  • Night - Coolest

Precipitation Patterns

  • Morning showers - Early bars
  • Afternoon storms - Mid-day peaks
  • Evening rain - Late-day bars
  • Overnight - May miss in hourly view

Wind Behavior

  • Calm mornings - Low wind
  • Afternoon winds - Peak gusts
  • Evening calm - Winds die down

Advanced Features

Watch pressure changes:

  • Rising - Improving weather
  • Falling - Worsening conditions
  • Stable - No major changes

Cloud Cover

Shading indicates clouds:

  • Light - Mostly clear
  • Medium - Partly cloudy
  • Dark - Overcast

UV Index Over Time

Plan sun exposure:

  • Peak usually midday (11am-3pm)
  • Minimal in morning/evening
  • Use for outdoor safety

Chart Limitations

Forecast Uncertainty

  • Further in time = less certain
  • Small changes not always predicted
  • Micro-climates may differ

Update Frequency

  • Charts show last-fetched data
  • Pull to refresh for latest
  • Check update timestamp

Resolution

  • Hourly data only
  • Cannot see minute-by-minute
  • For that, use weather radar

Comparing with Radar

Charts - Predicted future weather Radar - Current actual precipitation

Use both:

  • Radar for "what's happening now"
  • Charts for "what will happen"

Accessibility

Charts are designed for:

  • Color-blind friendly colors
  • Clear labels and legends
  • Alternative data views
  • Text-based alternatives

Performance

Charts are optimized for:

  • Smooth scrolling
  • Fast rendering
  • Low battery impact
  • Efficient data loading
